Jane Stedman’s interest in gardening started at an early age, along with the dream of one day owning a greenhouse. Years later, that dream became a reality with the addition of a GrowSpan Estate Deluxe Small Greenhouse to her backyard in Northfield, Minnesota.

Before purchasing the greenhouse, Stedman relied entirely on outdoor gardening. Though successful, Minnesota’s short growing season limited how long she could grow and made it difficult for some warm-season crops to fully mature. After researching hobby greenhouses for years, she ultimately chose GrowSpan, because she liked the design and quality of their Estate Deluxe Greenhouse line.

Today, the greenhouse enables Stedman to extend her growing season by one to two months, while continuing to raise vegetables directly in the ground. The added warmth and protection have created better growing conditions for several of her favorite crops.

“Crops grow better,” she said. “Spinach is less likely to bolt, sweet corn is ready earlier, tomatoes are less susceptible to disease by being inside and melons are able to grow and mature, which doesn’t happen outdoors.”

Beyond extending the growing season, the greenhouse has become a comfortable and enjoyable place to garden. Stedman especially appreciates its height, wide doors for excellent ventilation and sturdy construction that stands up well to strong winds.

For Stedman, the greenhouse has enhanced nearly every part of the gardening experience. It has expanded what she can grow, improved the health and productivity of her crops and given her more time each year to enjoy one of her favorite hobbies.
